Long before you go into your pitch about the great company, the world beating products and incredible earning potential of your company, your prospect has five misconceptions rattling round their brain. Answer them and you will have a happy, productive and profitable team member. Ignore them and they will not join, or, if they do, they are going to blame you when they fail…

1. ‘MLM is just some pyramid scam’. Sleazy get rich quick tricksters are all over the net with ‘ponzi’ schemes pretending to be legitimate MLM. But they are doing a disservice to the thousands of legitimate network companies out there. There are over 7 million active networkers in the US alone. Are they all scam artists?

2. ‘I can earn a fortune overnight’. No you can’t! Look there are some well known figures who earn astronomical figures and anyone can do the same. But it has taken time for these fortunes to appear. In fact statistics suggest that anyone who sticks with their MLM for 10 years can expect a six figure income.

3.’I have not got the time for this’. The top MLM gurus will freely admit that they do not work eight hour days in their business. They work smart. They follow simple guidelines and have set routines. Little and often is the best recipe for MLM success.

4. ‘I just need to recruit my friends and family and I am set’. Nu-huh. The old school methods of bugging your friends and family just do not work anymore. The way to grow your own business and build a successful team is to embrace new methods of lead generation, prospecting and recruiting.

5. ‘I can do this without speaking to anyone’. The internet is absolutely fantastic for generating leads and even promoting your business. But network marketing is and always will be about working with people. If you haven’t got time for other folks or if you are painfully shy, MLM is not for you.

These are the questions at the back of all your prospects’ minds. Answer them before you pitch your opportunity and your conversion rates will soar.

Inexperienced networkers struggle to convert prospects to team members because they fail to take control of the initial conversation. Here are the 5 questions to ask to ensure the prospect is right for your team, become an advisor rather than a salesman and guarantee the greatest chance of success for each and every team member…

1. Are you involved in an opportunity right now? Find out if the prospect has any experience in the industry.

2. Are you currently earning any money? Over 90% of networkers fail to earn any money each month and are not even covering their monthly auto ship or subscription. What is your prospects’ experience of this?

3. How many hours per week are you putting in or are you prepared to put in to growing your business? Work out whether your prospect is prepared to work to succeed. Is there outlook realistic and how much time can you devote to helping them achieve their goals?

4. What is your biggest concern in growing your business? What challenges, real or imagined, do your prospects forsee? Is your training and support going to focus on lead generation, recruitment or maximising income?

5. What do you need to earn? People always work harder for what they need than for what they want. Are you going to spend more time with a prospect who needs enough to pay the bills or someone who needs a couple thousand bucks to justify their involvement.

By asking these questions you will take control of the conversation. More importantly instead of being considered some chancey salesman looking to push your opportunity you will come across as a professional interested in the candidate and ready to help in their personal development.

This is no longer you pitching a business but becomes closer to an interview, which your prospects will be much more comfortable with, and forces the prospect to try to impress you that they are good enough to work alongside you.

Ask these questions and watch your recruitment levels soar.

Ask any network marketer and the biggest pain in the butt they endure is cold calling prospects on the phone. It can be frustrating, humiliating and causes huge numbers of new recruits to quit. Now imagine your prospects calling you, asking for more detail on your business and begging to work with you. Here is how to make it real…

1. Be Visible. If you want to attract a horde of new recruits they have to be able to find you. You want to branded far and wide and the internet will give you all the help you need. Start with a blog. This is where you advertise yourself, what you stand for and how knowledgeable you are in the MLM field. After that create a whole string of web real estate. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, there are a million sites where you can insert your own pages and profile. The more sites you take on, the more people will find you.

2. Advertise Your Solution. The internet is full of sites offering make money schemes. It is hardly surprising that MLM gets such a bad name when tricksters try to dress up illegal pyramid frauds as legitimate networks. So go against the grain. Don’t advertise your primary opportunity and become part of the noise. Instead offer sound advice, tips and training for people already in an MLM or looking to join one. You will be a breath of fresh air and attract a stream of prospects desperate for your help. The time to offer your opportunity is once they have seen what you do and grown to like and trust you. You will not have to call them they will hunt you down dying to work with you.

3. Offer A Plan. One of the biggest reasons for new recruits quitting their company is from lack of direction. After the fancy company presentation or movie and the motivational talk from their sponsor they are left to fend for themselves. No action plan, no training, no support. It is like the blind leading the blind. New recruits need direction, especially in their first 90 days. So again go against the grain. Formulate a full 90 day plan. Where to advertise, how to prospect, when to pitch the business. 95% of marketers fail to do it and their businesses crumble. Your prospects are probably coming from jobs. They are used to being told what to do and will feel much more comfortable starting their own business when they have clear instruction.

So there you go 3 simple success tactics. Put these in place and you will be playing on the same field as the 5% of top marketers who actually make money each month and whose businesses are growing.

The conversion rates for prospects to recruits in the MLM industry is extremely poor at less than 5%. Bad companies, bad industry, bad press or something more sinister? None of those, the fundamental reason is that 80% of marketers pitch their opportunity at the wrong time…

Look, recruiting prospects into your opportunity is about building relationships. Checking each other out, seeing what each has to offer, sharing ideas and values, making sure they are a good fit and then committing to work together.

The trouble is most networkers charge straight into the prospect pitching their opportunity without any sort of relationship building and then wondering why the prospect passes on joining their business.

It is easy to understand why this approach is so unsuccessful. Let’s look at this another way.

Imagine you find the man or woman of your dreams. Someone you are really attracted to and want to develop a wonderful relationship with.

What do you do? Well, you would go on a date right? Spend some time together at the movies or over dinner. Find out about each other, sharing your thoughts and ideas about love and life.

Your relationship then moves on with more time together, making the relationship physical and really understanding the wants and needs of each other. Discussing your ideas of the future and what each of you can contribute.

You move from your initial nervousness and trepidation to a level of understand and intimacy. You connect on all levels and become a true couple.

Then an only then, do you suggest an ongoing commitment, a life together and a sharing of the future.

That is how solid relationships that last, are formed. Now imagine you had approached this another way.

Introduced yourself, told the person you thought they were great and you found them attractive. Told them you were a wonderful partner, wanted to settle down straight away, get married, have kids and take on a mortgage and family car.

Would your approach be successful with the other person falling into your arms? Or would they panic, run screaming and brand you a whacko?

We know the answer to that right?

Well that is how all unsuccessful marketers approach recruiting new team members.

They do not even attempt to build a relationship with their prospects. They do not discuss values, goals and what each other can bring to the table. They do not set out a vision for the future or define the roles each partner will commit to.

Instead they just tell the prospect how wonderful the opportunity is, how much money they can make, how they would be mad to miss out, how the super, lateral, single line, double crossover, perpetual spillover, guaranteed to infinity, revolutionary double matrix with cross linked binary power line is exactly what they need. And without the monthly autoship of the pills and potions their life would incomplete.

Then they wonder why over 95% of their prospects go running and screaming never to be seen again.

So the best and only time to pitch your prospects is when you have built a relationship. Make sure you are a good fit, you can both match and live up to the others expectations and both are prepared to commit.

Have you wondered why your MLM advertising and your website is producing so few leads? Well there is a simple reason and when you understand it you will be able to correct it immediately and skyrocket your conversions in seconds…

You have heard of the 80/20 rule right? It applies across all arenas but especially in business. 20% of salesmen produce 80% of the sales: 20% of customers contribute 80% of profit: 20% of your marketing produces 80% of the leads.

Now this rule is especially important in MLM. You see of your potential recruits 20% will be pursue pleasure but 80% will be driven by pain.

What the heck does that mean?

Just 20% are chasing the Bentley and six figure incomes each month but the other 80% need a way to pay the bills and keep a roof over their head.

Now think on your advertising and your company website. It talks about thousands of bucks per month and huge residual incomes. And don’t tell me, but there are images of big cars, huge mansions, stacks of cash and dream vacations, right?

Well that is great for the pleasure seekers but they represent just 20% of your potential recruits and they will watch the full presentation and consider joining.

So hey, lets not forget the other 80%, all those just looking to get by and provide a better standard of living for their kids. You see these guys will not opt in, will not watch the full presentation and will not be joining your opportunity.

So what is the solution? Well you can do one of two things.

Tone down all your marketing. Drop all the income claims, tone down the glitzy success images and water down the residual expectations.

That will give your ads and your websites much broader appeal.

Or if you are really smart, like the super recruiters, you run two different ads and two different websites. You keep your high promise, high expectation themes to hit the pleasure seekers square in the eyes. But then you run separate ads and a separate website which is watered down and really resonates with the pain avoiders.

You are now able to corner all sides of the market and your competition is scratching their heads wondering how you are cleaning up.

Try either and you will be amazed at the results.
