The conversion rates for prospects to recruits in the MLM industry is extremely poor at less than 5%. Bad companies, bad industry, bad press or something more sinister? None of those, the fundamental reason is that 80% of marketers pitch their opportunity at the wrong time…

Look, recruiting prospects into your opportunity is about building relationships. Checking each other out, seeing what each has to offer, sharing ideas and values, making sure they are a good fit and then committing to work together.

The trouble is most networkers charge straight into the prospect pitching their opportunity without any sort of relationship building and then wondering why the prospect passes on joining their business.

It is easy to understand why this approach is so unsuccessful. Let’s look at this another way.

Imagine you find the man or woman of your dreams. Someone you are really attracted to and want to develop a wonderful relationship with.

What do you do? Well, you would go on a date right? Spend some time together at the movies or over dinner. Find out about each other, sharing your thoughts and ideas about love and life.

Your relationship then moves on with more time together, making the relationship physical and really understanding the wants and needs of each other. Discussing your ideas of the future and what each of you can contribute.

You move from your initial nervousness and trepidation to a level of understand and intimacy. You connect on all levels and become a true couple.

Then an only then, do you suggest an ongoing commitment, a life together and a sharing of the future.

That is how solid relationships that last, are formed. Now imagine you had approached this another way.

Introduced yourself, told the person you thought they were great and you found them attractive. Told them you were a wonderful partner, wanted to settle down straight away, get married, have kids and take on a mortgage and family car.

Would your approach be successful with the other person falling into your arms? Or would they panic, run screaming and brand you a whacko?

We know the answer to that right?

Well that is how all unsuccessful marketers approach recruiting new team members.

They do not even attempt to build a relationship with their prospects. They do not discuss values, goals and what each other can bring to the table. They do not set out a vision for the future or define the roles each partner will commit to.

Instead they just tell the prospect how wonderful the opportunity is, how much money they can make, how they would be mad to miss out, how the super, lateral, single line, double crossover, perpetual spillover, guaranteed to infinity, revolutionary double matrix with cross linked binary power line is exactly what they need. And without the monthly autoship of the pills and potions their life would incomplete.

Then they wonder why over 95% of their prospects go running and screaming never to be seen again.

So the best and only time to pitch your prospects is when you have built a relationship. Make sure you are a good fit, you can both match and live up to the others expectations and both are prepared to commit.

Posting videos on the free sharing sites can get great publicity and plenty of eyeballs. But most network marketers fail spectacularly and get virtually no views. Here’s 5 reasons why…

1. Fail The 5 Second Test. You have about 5 seconds to keep the attention of your viewer. First impressions count. Make sure you haven’t brushed your hair, cleaned your teeth and have gravy stains down your shirt and they will leave before 5 seconds are up.

2. Send A Mixed Message. Tell your potential recruits they are going to get rich with you and then film your video in your kitchen with dishes in the sink, the door hanging off its hinges and smashed glass in your window pane. If you want the viewer to respect you at least appear professional.

3. Scare the viewer away. Go take a look at most MLM videos. The film maker is on screen screaming that they have the best opportunity and you must work with them. They scare the poor viewer to death and blow the speakers on the pc. Would you want to be shouted at by your upline?

4. Fill the video with negatives. The idea of the video is to inform, arouse curiosity and elicit a response. How many videos have you seen where all the film maker does is try to discredit every other opportunity and every other MLMer? Would you want to work with such a negative guy or gal?

5. Pitch, pitch, pitch. People browse the internet looking for information or entertainment and hate to be sold to. If you spend 5 minutes ramming your opportunity down their throat you will end up as successful as a Christmas tree salesman in July! Offer valuable information only and let the viewer come looking for more.

Posting videos on the free sharing sites can get great publicity and plenty of eyeballs. But most network marketers fail spectacularly and get virtually no views. Here’s how to do it right…

People visit the internet for just two primary reasons. They are looking for either information or entertainment. Now, if you can pitch what you have to offer, to appeal to one or both of these reasons, you will score spectacularly.

The good news is most of your competitors out there have not got a clue and they are producing garbage. As a result they are getting a tiny number of views. This means that you can come in, produce your videos properly and clean up.

Commonly, your competition will record themselves. They shout at the camera, yell why their opportunity is the best and scream you why you should be working with them. There is no information here, just a blatant sales pitch. There is no humour either, well not intentionally anyway.

Don’t forget either ‘first impressions count’. If you are wearing dirty clothes, haven’t cleaned up your house, haven’t fixed your hair or have left spinach in your teeth, don’t go in front of a camera.

Now if you look at successful MLM videos which do have a large number of views, you will notice something completely different.

The video maker hardly ever appears in the video. Instead you will normally see a video with slides or images which offer information. It may teach you about a killer marketing method or recruitment technique. Either way you are encouraged and inclined to find out more.

The video maker will take you to a more detailed website, blog or video to really engage your attention. Once you are hooked, have seen more and respect or trust the maker, then and only then, they will show you their opportunity.

If they have done their job right, you end up calling them to ask for more information!

When you joined your opportunity, to start your business in ‘the fastest possible way’, you were probably told to pitch everyone who came within 3 feet of you, whether you knew them or not.

Two simple reasons why this is the quickest path to making you quit…

One of the core elements of network marketing is all about recruitment and duplication. And one of the key elements in human psyche is ‘first impressions count’.

So you are in a restaurant and uninvited you start talking to a waitress about your business, or you are in the gas station and start pitching the attendant, or in a queue and you start explaining your business to the guy in front of you… you get what I mean here.

Well what is the first impression you are giving to any of these people and what are you showing them about duplication? You are saying:

‘My business is great all you have to do is copy me, approach complete strangers and you will be rich!’

Not so appealing when you stand in the other person’s shoes is it? What do you think your chances are, of building a successful business doing it like that? How many people are going to sign up for that?

Another thing, cold pitching almost always leads to the prospect saying…’NO’. That my friend is the ultimate rejection. They know nothing about you, your business or what they are passing up but you are putting them in a very uncomfortable situation. You are trying to sell to them and people hate to be sold to.

So you are going to rejection after rejection after rejection. Now, unless you have the skin of a rhino, that is going to mentally kill you and before you know it, you will quit.

The right way to build your business fast, is to master techniques for generating targeted leads by the bucketful, showing them your business without the fear of rejection and HAVING THEM RING YOU, looking to join your opportunity.

Then, and only then, will you have the business you deserve.

Most MLM companies now offer a corporate website for you to show to your prospects.

The thing is, the top recruiters in the industry avoid them like the plague and here is the biggest reason why you should too.

Your prospects are all looking for one thing, a way to make money. They are searching online and offline for an opportunity to work with a company that can offer them a way to make cash.

So what they want is a simple presentation of what a company has to offer, what they have to do and what they can earn.

Now we both know that company websites rarely offer that.

Instead they bang on about how dedicated and smart the founders are, how they have cornered the market offering the best products and the greatest marketing plan. They all fall into the trap of playing the ‘our opportunity is better than your opportunity’ game.

The presentations are all sizzle and no steak. So instead of standing out from the competition they just blend into the noise of all the other websites advertising home business.

Now the big guns, the heavy hitters, they send their prospects to their own sites or communicate directly with them. They have their own blogs, these can be free or paid for, and their own autoresponders, these can be free too if you know where to look.

They give the prospects the exact information they are looking for and build long term relationships. That’s why the top 5% are making the six figure checks while the other 95% aren’t making a dime.

Now you know how it’s done you have the secret to joining the elite 5%.
